Phil Christiansen Lead Engineer of NextGen Sports Surfaces

Next Generation Sports Surfaces Launches Engineering Unit

Next Generation Sports Surfaces announced today it is appointing Philip Christiansen, P.E., as President of Next Generation Engineering, its newly launched engineering division.

Mr. Christiansen has practiced civil engineering for more than 50 years and advised the athletic fields industry for 40 years, applying his expertise to both product development and design solutions. While Mr. Christiansen is familiar with a wide variety of turf products, infill materials, and track surfaces, his expertise in soils and hydrology is most critical in the design of a successful sports facility. Because of varying soil conditions, rainfall intensities, and regulatory requirements throughout the country, every design needs to be tailored to the site location. His experience in regulatory compliance — including dealing with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Army Corps of Engineers, and local and state agencies on sports facilities as well as large sewer and pump station designs, subdivision design, industrial and commercial site plans, roadway improvement plans, hydraulic and hydrological studies — is brought to each project.

Mr. Christiansen holds a BCS in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College and an MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

“We are proud to have someone with Phil’s tenure, ethics, and high-caliber technical expertise join the Next Generation Sports Surfaces family,” said General Manager Mark Driver. “Under Phil’s leadership, Next Generation Engineering will augment the value we bring to our clients by more efficiently providing design-and-build solutions in the sports field arena.”
